It was recently confirmed that Dhanush's upcoming film with Thamizharasan Pachamuthu will be the actor’s 56th film, following the delay of Mari Selvaraj’s project. Since then, several news regarding the film's casting has been doing rounds on social media. A few days ago, Uriyadi (2016) and Election (2024)-fame Vijay Kumar has hinted at joining the yet-to-be-titled film.

It is now being speculated that Rukmini Vasanth will be playing the female lead in D56. A confirmation on the same is awaited. If true, D56 will mark Rukmini's third Tamil film after Vijay Sethupathi's Ace and Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi.

Details regarding the plot and extended cast details of D56 are unknown as Tamizharasan Pachamuthu's film is currently in its early stages. The filmmaker recently shared a black-and-white photo of him sitting in a village temple, confirming that he has started recce for the project, hinting at a rural drama. Dhanush had also expressed his excitement for the project.

It is to be noted that Mari Selvaraj recently said that his project with the actor "demands a massive creative and technical process" as the Idli Kadai actor wants it to become the biggest film of both their careers which may have caused the delay.

Rukmini Vasanth, who earned massive praise for her role as Princess Kanakavathi in Rishab Shetty's mythological action drama released last year, is awaiting the release of Geetu Mohandas' Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash in the lead. The gangster action drama has an ensemble cast consisting of Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Resad Ajim, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria. It scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on June 4.
