Thakkali Srinivasan, known for directing, composing and backing several noted films in the '80s, passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Srinivasan began his career as a producer with Ivargal Varungala Thoongal (1987). His producing credits some popular films in Tamil cinema including Manasukul Mathappu (1988), Nalaya Manithan (1989) and its sequel Adhisaya Manithan (1990), Jenma Natchathiram (1991) and Witness (1995), among others.
Besides producing, Srinivasan also directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathram, which was a remake of the iconic horror film The Omen (1976). He also played the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam (1988). In his composing stint, he made music along with Premi, thereby forming the Premi-Srini duo, supported by another composer Manachanallur Giridharan.
His last release on the big screen as a director was Aduthathu (2011), a thriller film which starred Sriman as the lead. The film is based on Agatha Christie's mystery novel And Then There Were None.
In the final years of his life, he ran an ashram and dedicated himself to humanitarian service, living alongside and caring for adopted children.
Thakki Srinivasan's last rites are scheduled to take place today, Wednesday in Bengaluru.
