One might have come across 'Kenatha Kanom' in pop culture, referring to a popular comedy from actor-comedian Vadivelu about a non-existent well, but in the upcoming film from the same name, real chaotic events unfold when a barren village suddenly discovers the existence of dinosaur fossils while digging a well. At the centre of it is Yogi Babu's character, a temple priest, who's struggling to navigate the crisis while trying to protect the village from being taken over by the government.
Directed by late filmmaker Suresh Sangaiah, the first trailer of the film was released by actor Karthi. Scheduled to release in theatres on March 13, Kenatha Kanom promises a fun-filled social commentary on drought, water scarcity, governance and identity of rural Tamil Nadu and its people.
Suresh Sangaiah, who breathed his last two years ago, had previously helmed Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu and Sathya Sodhanai. Previously, speaking to CE about the film, he said, "Kenatha Kanom is set in a dry and barren village in Ramanathapuram district and will revolve around the people in the area, and speak about their struggles and their happiness. This film is close to reality and will hold an essential message for the society."
The extended cast of Kenatha Kanom comprises Lovelyn Chandrasekhar, Ramakrishnan, Raichel Rabecca, George Mariyam, Rajendran, Kavitha Barathi, Kalaipandiyan, and Hello Kandasamy, among others.
The film is backed by R Ramesh Babu and Jegan Baskaran under the RB Talkies and Box Office Studio banners. On the technical front, the film will have music by Nivas K Prasanna, camera work by V Thiyagarajan, editing by R Ramar and art direction for PL Subentar.
