On Sunday, Rathna Kumar unveiled the prologue and deleted scene from his recent directorial, 29. The film, which opened in theatres on May 8, recently premiered on Netflix on June 5. Vidhu and Preethi Asrani play lead roles in the film.
For the unversed, 29 is split into ten chapters, and Rathna Kumar unveiled the 11th chapter after a fan on X asked if there is a deleted ending to the film. Sharing the prologue, Rathna wrote, "I asked for very little love. Thank you for the overwhelming response and love. A small return gift to the lovely families who fell in love with Sathya and Viji."
The actual film ends with an open ending, without showing whether Vidhu's Sathya and Preethi's Viji unite. The prologue now shows Sathya and Viji tying the knot after planting a sapling. Like the famous proposal scene from the film, Viji is seen asking Sathya why it took him so long to propose marriage, and the latter says he was finding the right place to tie the knot.
In 29, Vidhu stars as Sathya, who, at the age of 29, finds himself adrift, struggling with questions about his identity, purpose, and where he truly belongs. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Viji (Preethi), whose presence brings a new perspective to his uncertain world. As Sathya becomes increasingly consumed by self-doubt and existential turmoil, Viji emerges as a guiding force who may help him confront the questions that have long haunted him.
29 also stars Mahendran, Shehnaz Fathima, Avinash and Prem in key roles. The film is produced by Kaarthikeyan S of Stone Bench Creations, the label that also involves filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj and director Lokesh Kanagaraj under the G Squad banner. On the technical front, the film features music composed by Sean Roldan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam, and editing by R S Sathish Kumar.
