Actor Deepa Shankar's father was brutally attacked by an unidentified gang in Thoothukudi. Her father, Pulavar Ganesan, a resident of Mahalakshmi Nagar in Muthiahpuram, Thoothukudi, serves as the president of the Congress Committee for Ward 57 of the Thoothukudi Corporation.
As per reports, Ganesan was known for his effective administration as the trustee of the Bhadrakali Amman Temple in Muthiahpuram. He has also been actively involved in efforts to install a statue of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj near the temple.
According to reports, there had been prior disputes related to the temple administration and the installation of the Kamaraj statue. On Tuesday, even as Ganesan was standing in front of a tea shop in the Muthiahpuram Bazaar area, a group that arrived on motorcycles allegedly attacked him repeatedly with sickles.
When nearby people noticed the attack and rushed to help, the assailants fled the scene. Ganesan sustained multiple cut injuries, including injuries to his head, and was battling for his life when bystanders rescued him and rushed him to the Thoothukudi Government Hospital. He is currently undergoing intensive treatment.
The Muthiahpuram Police have registered a case and arrested three suspects from the locality — Muthuraj, Karthi, and Isakki — and are continuing their investigation.
