Vijay's Jana Nayagan witnessed the customary weekday slowdown on its first Monday after a blockbuster extended opening weekend. Despite the drop in collections, the H Vinoth directorial has comfortably crossed the Rs 250 crore mark at the worldwide box office in just five days.
According to the latest trade estimates on Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 10.15 crore net and Rs 11.76 crore gross in India on Day 5 (Monday) across 10,436 shows, registering an overall occupancy of 21.7 per cent. This represents a 68 per cent decline from Sunday's Rs 32 crore net, a trend typically seen after a strong weekend
With Monday's collections, Jana Nayagan has amassed Rs 134.90 crore net and Rs 157.74 crore gross in India. The film has also performed exceptionally well overseas, collecting Rs 95.20 crore, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 252.94 crore after five days.
Tamil Nadu continues to be the film's strongest market, contributing Rs 92 crore of the India gross so far. Karnataka follows with Rs 25.08 crore, while Kerala has added Rs 13.55 crore. The film has also earned Rs 11.05 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and Rs 16.06 crore from the rest of India.
Released on Thursday, Jana Nayagan opened to a massive Rs 42.70 crore net before dipping to Rs 21.15 crore on Friday. It bounced back over the weekend with Rs 28.90 crore on Saturday and Rs 32 crore on Sunday, ending its four-day opening weekend with Rs 124.75 crore net in India. Although Monday saw a sharp correction, the film's cumulative numbers remain among the strongest for a Tamil release this year.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is widely billed as Vijay's final film before his full-fledged political career. The political action drama stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Narain and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in pivotal roles, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Having already crossed the Rs 250 crore worldwide milestone and the Rs 150 crore India gross mark within five days, Jana Nayagan has established a formidable box office run. The film will now look to hold steady through the weekdays before entering its second weekend.
