There has been a divided opinion within the Tamil film industry on the appointment of Rajmohan as the Minister for Film Technology and the Cinematograph Act. For example, actor Vishal cast doubts on Rajmohan's experience to handle the department, asking whether he is knowledgeable enough to deal with issues in Tamil cinema at a grassroots level. Vishal also said that only Vijay could suit the position, due to the latter's decades-long experience of being an actor himself.

However, actor-director Raghava Lawrence defended Vijay's choice of Rajmohan as the Minister for Film Technology and the Cinematograph Act. Raghava Lawrence urged the film industry to be patient and trust that Chief Minister Vijay has made the appointment after careful consideration. Actor Krishna, too, spoke against the criticism for the government, suggesting that the critics have to give the newly appointed minister a fair chance instead of belittling him.

The latest to defend Rajmohan's appointment is actor-filmmaker Cheran. Speaking at an event for the Tamil Nadu Film Public Relations Officers' Association, Cheran said that there are several issues within the film industry that those outside it do not realise. "From the outside looking in, you might find us laughing on set, but we go back home and think deeply about the issues in the industry," the actor-filmmaker shared. "Producers come across thousands of hurdles from making a film to releasing it in theatres. The same applies to directors too," Cheran said.

The actor-filmmaker then appreciated Vijay's decision to appoint Rajmohan for the department. "Hats off to the Chief Minister for giving us a minister who knows the industry very well. Why? Because only he can fix these issues," Cheran added. He asked for a committee to be formed so that the issues with the film industry can be resolved.
