The romance drama Chennai Love Story, directed by Ravi Namburi and starring Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya, has been having an excellent run in theatres so far. According to the box office collection in an official poster, shared by Gouri Priya, the film earned 25.2 crore gross worldwide after the first two days of its release.
Interestingly, the figure differs considerably from the Chennai Love Story box office collection reported by the industry tracker Sacnilk. According to Sacnilk, the film earned 16.62 crore from theatres worldwide in its first two days. On Saturday, too, an official poster mentioned a higher figure as compared to Sacnilk, citing worldwide gross for its first day and premiers. It is to be assumed that the 25.2 crore includes what the film earned through its premieres as well. According to Sacnilk data, the show count for the film increased from 1638 on Friday to 1762 on Saturday.
Regardless, the performance of the film has been quite commendable, especially given the fact that if faces stiff competition from films such as the Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Despite negative reviews from critics and audiences, Jana Nayagan has reportedly earned more than 170 crore from theatres worldwide. On the other hand, The Odyssey continues its successful run in theatres in India and in the rest of the world.
Coming back to Chennai Love Story, the film follows an emotionally withdrawn younger, played by Sri Gouri Priya, who meets and forms a connection with an aspiring director (Kiran Abbavaram). Their meeting contributes to a gentle and shared journey of healing and second chances in life.
Following the positive reception from the audience in theatres, the makers of the film held a success meet event earlier this Sunday.
