In an exclusive conversation with Cinema Express for his latest film Jana Nayagan with Vijay, director H Vinoth offered an update on his next film. The film is directed by Bramma from Vinoth's screenplay. During the conversation, Vinoth said that the upcoming project is similar to his 2014 film Sathuranga Vettai, starring Natty and Ishaara Nair, among others. Recently, DT Next revealed that the upcoming film is a spiritual successor to Sathuranga Vettai, is titled Con Babu, and stars Natty in the lead role. The project brings H Vinoth and Natty back together after 12 years.
Reportedly, Natty stars as a con artist in Con Babu; in Sathuranga Vettai, too, he plays a conman named Gandhi Babu. Speaking about the project to Cinema Express, Vinoth said that 80 per cent of production on the film has been completed. "It will satiate Sathuranga Vettai fans," the filmmaker revealed.
Interestingly, Vinoth also said that he is not interested in making another film similar to Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), his other popular project starring Karthi as a police officer. Explaining his comment, the filmmaker added, "I do not have that much desire to go back to that kind of world. It is a story revolving around police officers and thieves. I have conveyed everything I wanted to convey in that story. I do not know how many people would accept it if I bring in a fantasy element to it."
While H Vinoth said that he kept Adhigaaram Ondru in the title of his 2017 film with a plan to do a second and a third part. "The idea is to do police stories, but I could not find a suitably deep story for Theeran. I have a fantasy story, and when I was thinking of doing it, there were discussions questioning that idea as Theeran required much research and is a realistic film."
