Actor Vemal, who was last seen in Vadam, is now in legal trouble. The actor has been sentenced to a year in prison in a financial case. The case stems from a loan Vemal had borrowed from Arasu Films Gopi to produce the film Mannar Vagaiyara. After the actor allegedly failed to repay the loan, Gopi filed a cheque bounce case against him.

Hearing the case, the court directed Vemal to pay the amount due to Arasu Films Gopi. The court also convicted the actor in the cheque bounce case and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment.

Mannar Vagaiyara is action comedy film written and directed by G Boopathy Pandian. The 2018 film is not only headlined by Vemal but also produced by him. The film also stars Anandhi, Saranya Ponvannan, Prabhu, Chandini Tamilarasan, Robo Shankar, Karthik Kumar, Meera Krishnan, Jayaprakash, Singampuli, Vamsi Krishna, Neelima Rani, Abishek Vinod, and Rethika Srinivas, among others.

The film features Vemal as Madhi, who assists his brother Arivu in finding the love of his life, causing conflict between two families. Madhi's parents disapprove of his relationship after he tells them about the woman he loves. With Jakes Bejoy's soundtrack and PG Muthiah and Sooraj Nallusami's cinematography, the film debuted on January 26, 2018, and after 100 days in theatres, it became a respectable smash.

On the work front, Vemal was last seen alongside Natty in Vadam earlier this year. In the pipeline, he has Sandakkari, Belladonna, and Vemal 39, among others.
