About six months after releasing the 'Ennai Thalattum' song from the shelved version of his film Unnai Ninaithu with Vijay, director Vikraman unveiled another song from it earlier this Saturday. The new song, titled 'Ootyku Poo Ethukku,' has the vocals of Tippu, music by Sirpy, and lyrics by NA Muthukumar.
"This song was filmed over 25 years ago, and unfortunately, we no longer have the original high-quality audio and video masters. What you’re watching is the best version we could preserve," Vikraman wrote in the song description. The video describes Vijay as 'Ilayathalapathy' (Young Commander) and offers a glimpse into his rising stakes as a young hero in Tamil cinema. As the makers themselves describe, the song has "a young Vijay in a never-seen-before avatar."
For the unversed, the superstar-turned-CM opted out of Unnai Ninaithu reportedly because of creative differences with the makers, and Suriya replaced him in the film with the same title. Before that replacement, however, Vijay had already shot some songs and other portions for the film. Laila, who was also part of the project with Vijay, remained its female lead with Suriya as well in the changed version by Vikraman. In a video message, the director said that he released the old song now because of persistent requests from fans and well wishers.
In the message, the director said that the negative for the song is unavailable, and its soundtrack is also not with the producer, himself, or the music director. He added that the newly released video is that of the song just as how it was shot at the time, noting that this would mean imperfections in the sound and the visuals. "If you want to watch a vintage Vijay, do watch this song, and let me know your opinion about it," the director said.
