Actor Swasika has been receiving much appreciation for her performance in director Sasi's Nooru Saami, co-starring Vijay Antony. Earlier, she delivered a breakout performance in Tamil cinema in the cricket-based drama Lubber Pandhu. By the time she played a small role in RJ Balaji and Suriya's Karuppu, the actor has become a recognised name in Tamil cinema thanks mainly to Lubber Pandhu. However, it has not been an easy journey for Swasika in the film industry.
In a recent interview, the actor spoke about her early struggles in the industry. Speaking to JFW Binge, she recalled how certain people posed as managers in cinema promised her meetings with directors in the Tamil film industry, such as AR Murugadoss. The actor said that these film managers would solicit newcomers, demanding large sums of money to arrange meetings with such filmmakers.
As it pertains to Murugadoss, Swasika said that she was asked one lakh to meet the filmmaker, under the guise that it is necessary in order for artists such as her to secure an opportunity in cinema. The actor even revealed that her mother expressed her willingness to give up her jewellery to facilitate these meetings, only to realise later that they were scams. She said that neither the filmmakers were involved nor were any auditions taking place. She highlighted the experience to underscore the vulnerability of newcomers in cinema when it comes to getting exploited.
The actor also said that some agents have even exploited her by taking money or demanding favours such as making her pay for their food under the promise of providing her with opportunities. "It was like how my character in Karuppu asks for biryani," the actor said, referring to the scene where her lawyer character solicits a client under a false pretense.
