Actor Kayadu Lohar opened up about a disturbing incident from her school days, revealing that she physically confronted a boy who repeatedly harassed her when she was in Class 10. Speaking during the promotions of her upcoming Tamil film, Idhayam Murali, the actor said she reached a breaking point after enduring several days of eve-teasing.
During a conversation with Galatta Tamil, Kayadu was asked about a real-life "Blast moment", referring to her co-star Preity Mukhundhan's action-packed role in the recently released film Blast. For the unversed, Preity Mukhundhan's Nila boldly physically attacks her harasser in the film when violated.
Initially reluctant to share the story, Kayadu said she ultimately decided to speak about it because it might encourage young women to stand up for themselves. Recalling the episode, she said a group of boys used to harass her while she attended tuition classes near her home. She ignored the behaviour for the first couple of days, hoping it would stop. However, when it continued, she said she lost her temper.
"I was so agitated... I picked up a stone. I threw it at his head and broke it," she recalled, adding that the boy began bleeding before she left the spot. Kayadu admitted the reaction was extreme and said she was unsure what happened afterwards.
Reflecting on the incident, the actor said she would not generally advocate such violence, but added that remaining silent in the face of harassment was not an option for her at the time. "When you do the wrong things, I don't think you should be quiet and take it. You should give it back," she said.
Last seen in Pallichattambi in Malayalam, Kayadu has Idhayam Murali slated for July 10. She also has Immortal with GV Prakash gearing up for release on July 23. Some films in her pipeline include The Paradise, I'm Game, Suriya 48, and Manjanathi, among others.
