Days after veteran filmmaker, actor and writer K Bhagyaraj's demise, a handwritten note purportedly written by him has become the subject of both emotional tributes and online debate.

The two-page letter was shared from Bhagyaraj's official social media account by his team. Presented as Bhagyaraj's farewell to his audience, the letter reflects on the affection he received throughout his career and reiterates his long-held wish to donate his eyes. In one of its most poignant passages, the letter reads, "I have kept my eyes alive just for your loving gaze. Please take care of them," adding that his eyes should continue to serve others even after his death.

The note also carries a personal appeal regarding his son and actor, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj. Thanking audiences for standing by him over the decades, the letter asks them to extend the same encouragement to his son. He says he hopes the applause and affection that once belonged to him would now become Shanthnu's blessing.

Elsewhere in the letter there's a reflection on mortality, stating that the human body ultimately returns to the earth or fire, while love and one's work endure beyond death. Through the letter, K Bhagyaraj expresses gratitude to those who celebrated, respected and mourned him, adding that he would continue to live on through his films, screenplays, dialogues and acts of humanity.

While many admirers described the note as a touching final message, others questioned its authenticity, with some noticing the 'made with AI' tag at the bottom of the post and questioning the necessity for the move. The contrasting reactions quickly turned the post into one of the most-discussed topics among Tamil cinema fans.

Bhagyaraj died in Chennai at the age of 73, marking the end of a career that spanned decades. Widely regarded as one of Tamil cinema's most distinctive storytellers, he directed more than 25 films and appeared in over 75, earning acclaim for his writing, direction and performances.
