Jana Nayagan producer to withdraw case against Censor Board: Reports

Unconfirmed reports also say that the makers plan to approach the Revising Committee, as the Censor Board suggested

Cinema Express Desk

The other day, we reported about Jana Nayagan producer, Venkat K Narayana's KVN Productions, being set to decide on whether to take back its case against the Censor Board and approach the Revising Committee today. According to unconfirmed reports, the producer has decided to abandon the case in their next hearing at the Madras High Court's Single single judge, Justice PT Asha, and subsequently go to the Revising Committee, as the Censor Board recently recommended.

Back then, Jana Nayagan's producer did not approach the Committee considering how the process could cause a delay in its plan to release the film on January 09, as scheduled for Pongal. Consequently, the makers of the film filed a complaint at the High Court against the board, seeking immediate relief from the court. Later, the single judge passed a directive, asking the board to issue a U/A certificate for the film. However, the court set aside the single judge's directive, forcing the film's producer to go back to the bench again for a fresh hearing.

The board's decision to not grant a U/A certificate for the film is reportedly based on its contention against its scenes that it argues are likely to cause religious unrest in India. The decision delayed the film's release, making the producer postpone it from January 09 to a hitherto-unannounced date. Meanwhile, many theatre owners in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and elsewhere opened early reservations for the film, even amidst the uncertainty over its release, around the Pongal festival. According to unconfirmed reports, the producer is planning to give back the money to the distributors that want to walk out of the project due to the delay in its release.

That said, KVN Productions and Venkat K Narayana are yet to give out an official statement, disclosing the latest developments about the film, starring Vijay and directed by H Vinoth.
