One day after the release of Draupathi 2, director Mohan G took to social media to address the release of the film. The sequel is a spiritual sequel to his 2020 film, Draupathi.

Through his X handle, the director wrote, "Even though the film received positive reactions from the audience it couldn't stand strong along with the release of Mankatha. It was a mistake to postpone the film a week after Pongal, due to a lack of theatres. I couldn't convey to the audience that the film is releasing on January 23. Due to the crowd that arrived for Mankatha, the reactions of the audience towards our film, wasn't recorded."

He added, "We couldn't convey some hidden historical truths to our audience. Using this situation, there are some who are spreading misinformation about me and negative comments about the film, without watching it. I have travelled through the film industry without any support, this past ten years. The judgement of the audience is the judgement of god. The audience is my support. Let the audience decide."

The director also released a video that detailed upon the above statement, where he said that he wanted to capitalize on the marketing investment put in by the producer.
