With actor-politician Vijay's Theri set for a re-release on January 23, the makers dropped the teaser on Sunday.
The over one-minute-long glimpse of the 2016 film directed by Atlee depicts Vijay playing cop Vijay Kumar and a baker Joseph Kuruvilla to leave his past behind.
Theri, the sophomore of filmmaker Atlee, follows a recluse Joseph Kuruvilla (Vijay), who is extra cautious to stay under the radar, runs a bakery in Kerala's Alappuzha, and is a single father of Nivi (Nainika). But as fate has it, he has a not-so-pleasant encounter with a local goon, which brings everything to the surface he kept avoiding: attention, danger, and his past.
After their successful maiden collaboration, Atlee teamed up with Vijay in Mersal (2017) and Bigil (2019). Similar to Theri's result, Mersal and Bigil too turned out to be blockbusters at the box-office. Theri was remade in Hindi with filmmaker Kalees' Baby John (2024), starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff. Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan's upcoming film Ustaad Bhagat Singh is also based on this Vijay film.
The film turned out to be a huge blockbuster. With Vijay in the lead, the film also starred Samantha, Amy Jackson, late filmmaker Mahendran, and Radikaa Sarathkumar.
Theri is re-releasing along with Ajith Kumar's Mankatha on January 23.
