Vaa Vaathiyaar Box Office Day 1: The Nalan Kumarasamy directorial, Vaa Vaathiyaar, has collected more than Rs 1.5 crores at the Indian box office. The Karthi headliner was released theatrically on January 14, after multiple delays.

According to box office tracker, Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1.65 crores on day 1. The film is the first of the releases for the Pongal holiday. The film is currently set to collect more than Rs 2.5 crores on day 2.

The fantasy drama also stars Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, PL Thenappan, Anandraj, Shilpa Manjunath, and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others.

CE's review of the film read, "Righteousness. There was a time when our cinema’s heroes didn't even tread on the path of grey. Heroes were meant to be infallible and not vulnerable. Their words were gospel, and they never placed one foot wrong. Basically, heroes were… heroes. Then came the era of the grey-zoned heroes. They could fail, do bad stuff, indulge in vices, and if they have enough time, could have a redemption arc, or not… There was a tectonic shift in the kind of heroes idolised by the masses, and that’s probably why we don’t have demigods anymore. One of the most prolific demigods of Tamil cinema was undoubtedly the late Dr MG Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR. He was the epitome of righteousness on screen, and almost 40 years after his death, continues to be the gold standard for the same. But the world doesn’t exist in binaries anymore, and it is bittersweet to see ‘Vaathiyaar’ return in Nalan Kumarasamy’s Vaa Vaathiyaar, as the symbol of everything virtuous."
