Here is why netizens are furious about Parasakthi team attending a Pongal celebration event in Delhi

Earlier, we reported about Sudha Kongara facing flak for her comments related to the delay in the censorship clearance of her film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, and Atharvaa. Netizens are also accusing team Parasakthi of pandering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. Pictures and videos with the film's actors Ravi and Sivakarthikeyan and composer GV Prakash from the recent Pongal celebrations, featuring Modi as a special guest, at the Union Minister L Murugan's residence have been going viral. According to the netizens, the fact that they attended Pongal celebrations at the minister's residence goes against the film's core element opposing Hindi imposition. This has especially been the sentiment after Modi did not mention Pongal in his speech.

In a clip that has been widely circulated on the internet, Modi can be heard saying that people around the country are celebrating festivals, such as Makar Sankranti, Lohri, and Magh Bihu. According to netizens, Modi intentionally did not mention Pongal in his speech, partly due to the state's opposition against the idea of making Hindi as the national language, especially that of trying to enforce it on people. The stance is part of the state's long-standing opposition against Hindi imposition and is an important aspect of the state's cultural and political landscape. While the film itself does not directly criticise the BJP, its core plot element of a revolution against Hindi imposition allegedly goes against the party's idea of making India a Hindi-speaking nation. The party has tried to promote it as a language that bridges regional barriers rather than as a substitute for states' vernaculars, but some of its leaders have also made statements that contributed to allegations of 'Hindi imposition'.
