Actor-politician Vijay's fans will have a disappointing Pongal as the most anticipated film of the year, Jana Nayagan, which is also his last, will not get released as planned. In the proverbial rubbing salt to the wound, the fans who had made up their mind to at least catch a glimpse of their matinee idol in his 2016 film Theri, which was supposed to be re-released on January 15, are put on an indefinite hold.

Producer of the film Kalaipuli S Thanu wrote on his X handle, "As per the request from the producers of upcoming releases, we have decided to postpone the release of Theri."

Theri, the sophomore of filmmaker Atlee, follows a recluse Joseph Kuruvilla (Vijay), who is extra cautious to stay under the radar, runs a bakery in Kerala's Alappuzha, and is a single father of Nivi (Nainika). But as fate has it, he has a not-so-pleasant encounter with a local goon, which brings everything to the surface he kept avoiding: attention, danger, and his past.

The film turned out to be a huge blockbuster. With Vijay in the lead, the film also starred Samantha, Amy Jackson, late filmmaker Mahendran, and Radikaa Sarathkumar.
