Vijay's Theri to re-release in theatres for Pongal

In Theri, DCP Vijaya Kumar goes into hiding to bring up his daughter Niveditha (Nainika) in a safe environment

While a festive release for Vijay's Jana Nayagan seems unlikely, another film of Vijay is looking to fill the void during the period. Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations had on Saturday, officially announced the re-release of Theri on January 15, as it celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

Sharing a new poster of Vijay from Theri, the producer said that the film will hit theatres worldwide on January 15, triggering a wave of excitement online. Directed by Atlee, the action thriller starred Vijay in dual roles as Vijay Kumar IPS and Joseph Kuruvilla. In the film, DCP Vijaya Kumar goes into hiding to bring up his daughter Niveditha (Nainika) in a safe environment. However, after her life is threatened by deadly gangsters, he must face his past to protect his daughter. Besides Vijay, the film saw Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson playing key roles.

The film was released to positive reviews from critics and audiences, emerging as the second highest-grossing Tamil film of 2016. The film was adapted into Sinhala as Goree (2019) and Assamese as Ratnakar (2019). In Hindi, Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh played leading roles in the remake titled Baby John. It is currently being remade in Telugu as Ustaad Bhagat Singh, headlined by Pawan Kalyan.

Meanwhile the verdict on Jana Nayagan's censor issue is expected on January 20.
