One of the most anticipated releases of 2026 besides Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi, has been Suriya's Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. With filming completed and post-production in full-swing, a release date is yet to be revealed by the makers.

On New Year, Suriya had shared a new poster of Karuppu, writing his wishes to public, expressing gratitude for the love he has been receiving. Within minutes RJ Balaji shared a behind-the-scenes still from the action drama saying, "This year will be great. Karuppu will be worth your wait," teasing fans for more updates to come soon.

Earlier in October, the filmmaker-actor said, "I am waiting to the right release date to share it with the world. Karuppu will make everyone happy." While it was speculated that the film will release this month, clashing with either Jana Nayagan or Parasakthi, it looks like the makers are opting for a release after January.

Karuppu also stars Trisha as the female lead, reuniting her with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. Indrans, Mansoor Ali Khan, Natty, Swaswika, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Sshivada, among others play supporting roles. It is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures' SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu and has music by Sai Abhyankkar‬.

The teaser, which was released in July last year, presented Suriya in a 'mass' avatar. The actor seemed to be playing a lawyer in the film which is set in a rural backdrop. He is looked at as a saviour, an almost deity-like who delivers justice to commonfolk.

Karuppu's technical crew also features cinematography by GK Vishnu, editing by Kalaivanan, art direction by Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreography by Vikram Mor. The project also marks a reunion for Suriya with his NGK producers, as well as RJ Balaji with his Sorgavaasal makers — SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures.

Besides Karuppu, Suriya has two untitled biggies - Suriya 46, directed by Venky Atluri and Suriya 47, directed by Jithu Madhavan.
