On Friday, Red Giant Movies announced that the promo of their upcoming film, KHxRK, starring Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth in lead roles, will be unveiled on Saturday at 12:07 pm. The makers announced the film and their collaboration with the veteran stars on Thursday at 7:12 pm. The makers have been making a play around the birthdays of Kamal Haasan (November 7) and Rajinikanth (December 12) for the time of announcement.

This collaboration comes after Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International announced that they're backing a film starring Rajinikanth. Tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, the film was initially set to be helmed by Sundar C, who exited the project and was replaced by Cibi Chakravarthy. Rajinikanth is set to begin filming for the project soon, now that he has also completed shooting for Jailer 2.

These collaborations between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan come after 47 years. They last starred together in IV Sasi’s 1979 film, Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum. While Kamal Haasan starred as Alavuddin, the protagonist, Rajinikanth played the antagonist, Kamaruddin. The film also starred Jayabharathi and Sripriya in prominent roles.

Details about the director, plot, genre, extended cast and crew of KHxRK are yet to be announced by the makers. Inban Udhayanidhi is set to back the film under the Red Giant Movies banner.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, helmed by Nelson, is currently in post-production. While it was previously announced that the film will hit theatres on June 12, new reports suggest that the release is postponed to August 12. An official confirmation is awaited. Kamal Haasan, on the other hand, is working on KH 237 helmed by Anbariv.
