It's been nearly a year since actor Suriya had a release, and fans of the actor are eager for his next, Karuppu, helmed by RJ Balaji, to hit theatres. Now, the filmmaker and actor has confirmed a release window for Suriya's 45th film.

Speaking at a recent college event, RJ Balaji said, "Karuppu is completed and ready for release. We don't want to build up & create expectations, as audiences criticise much nowadays. But the movie has come out well, and we think you will like it. It'll release this summer, post elections. Like Valimai, many are now asking about Karuppu updates. It's a film for families – college students and school students can enjoy it with their parents."

Karuppu also stars Trisha as the female lead, reuniting her with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. Indrans, Mansoor Ali Khan, Natty, Swaswika, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Sshivada, among others, play supporting roles. RJ Balaji will also be seen in a cameo role in the film. It is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures' SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu and has music by Sai Abhyankkar‬.

The teaser, which was released in July last year, presented Suriya in a 'mass' avatar. The actor seemed to be playing a lawyer in the film, which is set in a rural backdrop. He is looked at as a saviour, an almost deity-like figure who delivers justice to commonfolk.

Karuppu's technical crew also features cinematography by GK Vishnu, editing by Kalaivanan, art direction by Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreography by Vikram Mor. The project also marks a reunion for Suriya with his NGK producers, as well as RJ Balaji with his Sorgavaasal makers—SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures.
