On Wednesday, the makers of Manikandan's next film announced Makkal Kaavalan as its title. The actor plays a police officer in the upcoming film, written and directed by first-time filmmaker Santhosh Kumar. Some notable personalities from the film industry expressed their support to the actor for his upcoming film.

Pushkar–Gayathri shared, "When we met Manikandan for the first time almost a decade back, we knew this guy's talent will burst through to glorious heights!! Delighted to share the first look of Makkal Kaavalan." It is worth noting that Manikandan wrote the dialogues for and starred as a police officer in Pushkar–Gayathri's 2017 film Vikram Vedha, featuring actors R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, Harish Kalyan conveyed his best wishes to Manikandan for the upcoming film and expressed his appreciation for the first look poster for Makkal Kaavalan.

On the other hand, Shruti Haasan also shared the poster for the upcoming film and expressed her excitement for its release. The actor-singer wrote, "Congratulations Manikandan so looking forward to this!" She conveyed her best wishes to debutant Santhosh Kumar as well as to producers Neelam Studios and Birla Studios on the project.

The story follows a simple person who is determined to exist in a dignified way in system full of corruption, and this determination turns him into a leader that he never expected to be. Also part of the cast are Vaagai Chandrasekar, RK Vijaymurugan, A Venkatesh, Shanmugam Muthusamy, Unni Maya, Sabumon, Divya Sripada, Lallu, Gemini Mani, Raghu, and Jenson Dhivakar.

On the technical front, the film has composer Nivas K Prasanna, cinematographer Pratheepan Selvaratnam, production designer Pappanadu C Uthayakumar, editor Arul Moses, and action director Don Ashok. The film is produced by Neelam Studios' Aditi Anand, who backed the Dhruv Vikram starrer Bison Kaalamaadan along with Pa Ranjith, and Birla Studios.
