Actor Madhavan, who is currently on a promotional spree for his upcoming film G.D.N, the biopic of popular industrialist GD Naidu, recently expressed his happiness on his fellow actor Vijay becoming Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. While he welcomed actors turning politicians, Madhavan dismissed rumours and speculations of him moving to the same route.
In a recent interview with veteran filmmaker KS Ravikumar, Madhavan shared his admiration for Vijay and said, "A lot of good things are happening...To see the political landscape change so quickly and to see how it's possible has given us the belief that change can happen. I know Vijay very well. I can proudly say that my friend Vijay has become CM Vijay."
Ravikumar also reflected on his firsthand experience of seeing actors transition into politics. The filmmaker also referred to the previous ruling party, the DMK, while speaking about former Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin's son Inban Udhayanidhi. Recalling an old memory, he said, "I still remember when Inban was four years old, sitting on my lap as we took photos together. Seeing how much he has grown and where he is today makes me incredibly proud. As long as politics remains focused on people's welfare and serves them well, I'll be happy."
He also shared his view on politics and called it a "double-edged sword". "You'll get scolded even if you do well, and you'll get scolded even if you make mistakes. No matter what you do, there will be one group that looks at it negatively," he noted.
When probed if he would enter politics someday, he said he has "absolutely no interest." Madhavan went on to defend his stance, saying, "We should carry a spirit of service within us. The desire for power no longer appeals to me. I have no ambition to lead people or become Chief Minister. In that sense, I'm selfish. I know how to do good in my way. I don't have a great understanding on politics. I respect elected representatives. Like that famous dialogue in Thambi, I believe in doing my job properly without causing harm to anyone."
Madhavan's upcoming film G.D.N talks about the man who was often hailed as the “Edison of India”. GD Naidu was a self-taught engineer and entrepreneur from Coimbatore who revolutionised Indian industry by adapting imported technologies into affordable, practical innovations. The biopic explores his life, innovations and the controversies surrounding it. Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the film also stars Sathyaraj, Priyamani, Jayaram, and Dushara Vijayan in key roles and is scheduled to release in theatres on August 7.
