Actor Vijay Sethupathi has revealed that he has decided to stop taking up cameo appearances in films, saying the practice has begun affecting the perception of his projects as a lead actor. However, he made one exception for Rajinikanth's upcoming Jailer 2.

Speaking to Gobinath in a recent interview, Vijay explained that while he has no issues with special appearances, the way they are marketed has prompted him to rethink accepting such roles.

"I've completely stopped doing cameos. The only exception is Jailer 2, which I did for Rajinikanth sir. If my poster appears for Jailer 2, audiences will only notice Rajini sir. But in smaller films, my cameo is often used in the promotional posters, and that ends up affecting the films where I'm the lead," he said.

Some small films in which Vijay Sethupathi has appeared in a cameo role include Azhagiya Kanne, Obama Ungalukkaaga, Imaikkaa Nodigal, Traffic Ramasamy, and Katha Nayagan, among others.

Vijay is set to make a special appearance in Nelson's Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Headlined by Rajinikanth, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15. Produced by Sun Pictures, the action entertainer also brings back Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu and Jaffer Sadiq, while Suraj Venjaramoodu, Bagavathi Perumal, Tamizh, Jatin Sarna, Meghana Raj Sarja and Bjorn Surrao join the cast. Anirudh Ravichander returns as composer, with Nelson once again writing and directing the film.

Vijay Sethupathi was most recently seen in the silent feature Gandhi Talks, directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar. His upcoming slate includes Mysskin's Train, Vetri Maaran's Arasan, co-starring Silambarasan TR, Puri Jagannadh's Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road, and Thiagarajan Kumararaja's Pocket Novel, in which he stars alongside Malavika Mohanan. He has also recently begun shooting for Mani Ratnam's next, co-starring Sai Pallavi.
