Actor Vijay, who recently wrapped up his extensive election campaign for the Tamil Nadu assembly election held on April 23, visited the Thiruchendur Subramania Swamy Temple on Tuesday in the Thoothukudi district and offered prayers to Lord Murugan. Amidst heavy crowd, the actor was seen presenting flowers to the God.
Following his visit, the temple authorities honoured him with a shawl and a small 'vel', symbolic of the divine spear used by the Hindu deity. He was also given the 'kumba mariyathai', with heavy police managing the excited throngs chanting his name and party slogans. The actor landed at the Madurai airport at around 1.40 am on Tuesday where he was greeted by a sea of fans. He then proceeded to Thiruchendur via road.
Vijay was seen in a traditional silk veshti and an upper garment in his visit, garnering attention from social media users.
Throughout his election campaign, Vijay has been visiting shrines of various faith. A few days ago, the actor, during his campaign in Trichy visited St Antony's Church on Wireless Road, where he prayed, lit a candle and also performed a kneel walk. Later, he went to the Noorul Hudah Mosque in KK Nagar where he was received by authorities and presented with a shawl. Before leaving to Chennai, he prayed at the Kottapattu Pachanachi Amman Temple.
The actor recently made his successful entry into politics through his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam where his party members contested in all the 234 constituencies in the state. Vijay contested from two constituencies - Perambur and Trichy East, a rare feat for a politician especially who is making his debut.
With the election results set to be announced on May 4, all eyes are on Vijay and TVK who are expected to take home significant vote shares as well as win considerable number of seats.
On the film front, the actor is awaiting the release of Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, which is embroiled in controversies and legal hurdles with the censor board yet to grant a clearance for the film.
