Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: The D-Day for citizens of Tamil Nadu to make their voice and choice heard is here, as polling day for the Tamil Nadu Legislative assembly is underway. After casting his vote, actor-filmmaker Ameer shared his opinions about polling to the media.

"When it comes to the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, my vote has been for the parties that are for self-governance (of Tamil Nadu by Tamil people) and for the rights of communication through the mother tongue," said Ameer.

When questioned on the important things that youngsters and first time voters need to look out for, Ameer said, "Not just youngsters, but it is the duty of every voter to vote. If you don't complete this basic duty, you lose the right to complain that your representative is not completing his duty. To expect a government to work for you, without you paying your taxes or you voting is not right."

He added, "Look back at history before voting. Consider where your identity lies, what problems you face, what your politics are before voting for someone, and not just because you like them."

Voters across Tamil Nadu can vote from 7:00 am to 06:00 pm at their local polling stations, today (April 23). On May 4, the votes will be counted and results will be announced.
