As legendary singer S Janaki turns 88 today, composer-filmmaker Gangai Amaren and singer Shweta Mohan are reviving a select number of songs in Janaki's compositions as a tribute.

The tribute will be an album of four Hindi songs Janaki composed and wrote lyrics for. Gangai Amaren will write the Tamil lyrics of those songs, with Shweta Mohan lending her voice.

The official announcement stated, "We've celebrated her through her countless renditions! Now, let's enjoy some songs composed and penned (Hindi) by our fav Janaki Amma though the voice of current gen sensation Shweta Mohan."

With a career spanning over six decades, S Janaki, known for her moniker 'Nightingale of South India', has a discography of a breathtaking 48,000 plus songs across languages, including foreign languages such as English, German, Japanese and Sinhala, in films, radio, television and albums. In her illustrious career she has bagged four National Awards, six Tamil Nadu State Awards, 10 Nandi Awards, and 11 Kerala State Awards. Interestingly, she refused to received the Padma Bhushan Award in 2013 as she felt that the recognition came a little too late.
