It's been nearly two weeks since Vijay's Jana Nayagan was leaked online, even before its theatrical release. While the Chennai cybercrime police have made arrests and are conducting their investigations, Mamitha Baiju, who plays a key role in the film, has now opened up about her state of mind after the leak.
In an interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, she said, "It is very disappointing and painful. The dream and hard work of a lot of people shouldn't go to waste, no? I didn't believe it when the news first came up. I thought it was just some rumour on social media and prayed it wasn't true. My brother was the first one to call me to inform me about the leak, and I had no idea how to react except to ask, 'Why?' It is so unfortunate."
After the footage from Jana Nayagan was leaked on April 9, six people were arrested initially, after which three more people were arrested by the cybercrime police. After the initial discovery of the leaks, various film personalities across the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada film industries, like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, and Rishab Shetty, expressed their support to Jana Nayagan's makers and condemned the actions of the accused.
Immediately after the leak, Mamitha expressed her disappointment through her Instagram stories, saying, "A film comes to life through the hard work, passion, and commitment of so many people who give their best every single day. It's truly disappointing to see it being circulated illegally. Some moments are meant to be experienced together on the big screen, just as they were intended."
Written and directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is Vijay's last film before he retires from films for politics. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Priyamani, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, among others. A release date for the film is yet to be finalised amidst the leak and the censorship issue.
