On Friday, composer Sai Abhyankkar shared a photo with Dhanush, teasing that the composing work for D55 is happening in full swing. Sharing the black-and-white photo, Sai wrote "#D55" along with a chef and a firecracker emoji, hinting that something fiery is cooking for the film.

Previously, back in February, the composer said that he is "cooking a special album" for D55, helmed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The young composer also noted how he feels ecstatic to work with Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy. While he remained tight-lipped on the story, Sai Abhyankkar, he said that the album will have both energetic dance numbers for Dhanush as well as romantic songs.

D55 stars an ensemble cast consisting of Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela. Sai Pallavi is uniting with Dhanush for the second time after Maari 2 (2018) and the director after their hit collaboration in Amaran. Sreeleela will be working on her sophomore project in Tamil after the recent Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Parasakthi. Meanwhile, Mammootty is making his comeback to Tamil cinema seven years after director Ram's critically-acclaimed drama Peranbu (2019).

While plot details of D55 are currently unknown, the director had previously revealed, "My previous film was about a hero, a gallantry award recipient (Amaran). My next is about many unsung heroes who blend in within society. The protagonist will represent one such hero." Details regarding the rest of the cast members, the plot and a tentative release date have been kept under wraps.

D55 will be backed by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, in association with RTake Studios. The film was earlier set to be produced by Anbuchezhiyan and Sushmita Anbuchezhiyan under their Gopuram Films banner before the change took place.

Meanwhile, Sai Abhyankkar's next project as composer is Suriya's Karuppu, which is slated for May 15. He is also composing music for Allu Arjun and Atlee's Raaka. Some other projects in the composer's pipeline include Marshal and Benz.
