RJ Balaji is all set to make his directorial comeback with Suriya's Karuppu, four years after his last directorial venture, Veetla Visesham. In a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, the director-actor revealed that the film's second single, the 'Naanga Naalu Peru' song, is not a part of the film's storyline.

In the interview's promo, he is seen saying, "The 'Naanga Naalu Peru' song is not a part of Karuppu. Fans may think I have removed it because it was heavily trolled. But the truth is, the song was never planned as a part of the film." For the unversed, 'Naanga Naalu Peru' was not received well by audience upon its release

Further, speaking about multiple delays for the film's release, he said. "We wanted to release the film for Diwali, but couldn't. We then aimed for Pongal, but Jana Nayagan was in the race then. Now, we've chosen May 15, because I set my mind for the film to be a peak summer release."

Sai Abhyankkar has composed music for the film. Meanwhile, Silambarasan TR has lent his vocals for 'Naanga Naalu Peru', alongside the composer and rapper Asal Kolaar, with the latter writing the lyrics. The music video for the song also introduces RJ Balaji as the character Baby Kannan from the film.

The cast of Karuppu also includes Trisha, Indrans, Natty, Mansoor Ali Khan, Swasika, Sshivadha, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy, among others.

Vishnu Edavan and Arun Srinivasan have also written lyrics for the film's soundtrack. Cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor R Kalaivanan, production designer Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor round out the crew of Karuppu.

Karuppu is produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabu under their Dream Warrior Pictures banner. Aravendaraj Baskaran is serving as the executive producer on the film. The film is gearing up to open in theatres on May 15.
