Long before Pradeep Ranganathan signed Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) with Vignesh Shivan, the filmmaker envisioned the sci-fi romantic entertainer with Sivakarthikeyan. Announced in 2019, the film which was set to be backed by Lyca Productions, was unfortunately shelved before it even took off due to budget constraints.

Vignesh Shivan has now opened up on the initial hiccups, delays and financial issues he faced before LIK was made into the version that it is today. "When I initially gave the budget for the film, I provided an estimate of Rs 150-200 crore. I thought that when I inform the same, the producers would instantly give their nod and I could swiftly begin works for the film. But it never happened. This film was supposed to happen before Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal where Sivakarthikeyan was set to headline it as his 17th film," he shared, during the pre-release event of LIK.

"I never once thought the film would not happen. I kept having hopes, but one day I realised it will not materialise. I came out of it later. I was told to make it compact and small. In that mindset, I made Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. Later, I got the opportunity to direct a film on Chess Olympiad. I suggested to paint the Napier Bridge so that the Chief Minister as well as AR Rahman could perform in it. At that moment, I had an intuition that the film will materialise," he added.

LIK eventually took off in 2023 as Love Insurance Corporation with Pradeep Ranganathan, before being renamed as Love Insurance Kompany. Besides Pradeep, Krithi Shetty and SJ Suryah also headline the film which has Gouri Kishan, Yogi Babu, Seeman, Shah Ra, Malavika, Mysskin, Anandaraj and Sunil Reddy, among others in supporting roles.

Music composer Anirudh once again reunites with director Vignesh for LIK. The crew of the film also includes Ravi Varman as the director of photography, Pradeep E Ragav as the editor, T Muthuraj as the production designer, and Peter Hein as the stunt choreographer. Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are producing LIK under their Rowdy Pictures, along with SS Lalit Kumar who backs the film under his Seven Screen Studio banner.
