Director Gandhi Krishna, known for films like Chellamae and Ananda Thandavam, is making his directorial debut with Breakfast, starring debutants Ranav and Rosmin. At the film's recent press event, the director opened up about its theme and why he hasn't directed a film in 17 years.

Addressing his long gap, Gandhi said, "Many have asked why I took such a long break after delivering several good films. I worked on a script titled Karikalan for two years, but it didn’t materialise for various reasons. I now have around 13 scripts ready, and I will direct them when the right producers come on board."

He further opened up about Breakfast. "It reflects the lifestyle of today’s generation. It portrays how love existed 2,000 years ago and how it exists among today’s youth. We’ve given the tagline ‘Accept the Reality'. We live in a time where we cannot fight against modern lifestyles. We are not offering advice to couples, but we must accept this bitter truth. We have only one life, and our culture teaches us to live it meaningfully. We’ve tried to present this in a commercial format," he explained.

An erstwhile assistant of director Shankar, Gandhi Krishna detailed his learnings from the veteran filmmaker. "I have worked with director Shankar since Indian, and he would call me whenever there was an issue in his scripts. I learned a lot from him—beyond reading and watching films, he taught me to observe what is unique in every place we visit. That’s what makes a true creator. This helped me understand how today’s youth speak and behave, he said, further speaking about writer Sujatha, whose Pirivom Santhippom he adapted for screen as Ananda Thandavam. "For Breakfast, writer Sujatha helped me understand the world of today’s youth," he said.

Then, he praised GV Prakash for his work as a composer in the film. "Despite multiple commitments after winning a National Award, GV Prakash Kumar composed all the songs beautifully. Vairamuthu also liked the story." On where the film has been shot, he added, "Most of the film was shot in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Puducherry, while songs were filmed in Manali, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia.” He also revealed that the makers are planning for an April release.

Breakfast also stars Sampath Kumar, Kasturi, and Krithik Mohan, among others. The film is backed by Girija Varadaraj under the Prem Classic Pictures banner. On the technical front, the film will feature cinematography by MV Paneer Selvam and editing by S Baaskar.
