The makers of Kavin-Andrea Jeremiah's next film, Mask, shared a condolence message for the deaths in a stampede during actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) event in Karur last Saturday.

The message was shared on Andrea's social media handle on behalf of the team.

The post read that the team is sharing the grief of the families that lost their loved ones. The statement also expressed the team's hope for a swift recovery for those who were injured.

The death toll, which was 40, rose to 41 on Monday. The toll increased with the death of a 65-year-old woman, Suguna, who succumbed to injuries at the Karur Government Medical College Hospital.

The Tamil Nadu government, announcing an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the deceased, formed a one-man committee comprising retired Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, who has commenced an inquiry. Vijay also announced a solatium of Rs 20 lakh to the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the injured.

As the political blame game continues, TVK has moved the HC to probe the stampede as the party suspects foul play. Vijay has also requested permission from the police to visit Karur and provide relief to the families of the victims in person.
