Varalaxmi Sarathkumar to star in, direct and produce Saraswathi; Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Naveen Chandra join cast

Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is all set to make her directorial debut with a new film titled Saraswathi. The upcoming film is also special for her as she will be backing it has her along with her sister Pooja Sarathkumar in their maiden production venture through their banner Dosa Diaries. Further, she will be playing the lead role, along with noted actors comprising Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Naveen Chandra.

The title poster of the film was announced on Saturday, along with the cast details. While the film's genre and plot have been kept under wraps, Saraswathi will have music by Thaman S, cinematography by AM Edwin Sakay, editing by Venkat Raajen. "Saraswathi begins an exciting new journey for the sisters in the world of cinema," said the makers.

Prakash Raj and Varalaxmi have earlier shared screenspace in Poikkal Kuthirai and Raayan. On the other hand, Naveen Chandra has acted alongside her in the Telugu film Veera Simha Reddy and will collaborate together in the upcoming film Police ComplaintSaraswathi will mark the first time Priyamani and Varalaxmi are joining hands for a film.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar is known for her roles in Podaa Podi, Tharai Thappattai, Vikram Vedha, Nibunan, Sandakozhi 2, Iravin Nizhal and Madha Gaja Raja, among others. She was last seen in Phoenix, directed by Anl Arasu which marked the acting debut of Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya Sethupathi.
