Dhanush says that he feels like a man born to make idli in the first official trailer for Idli Kadai, a film where he dons multiple hats, including that of an actor, co-producer, writer, and director. The trailer introduces many characters and gives a fair idea about the film's plot, which revolves around Dhanush's Murugan and his strong emotional connection with his father's idli shop. Judging by the trailer, the film stars Dhanush as a man who quit his job at a Michelin restaurant to help save his father's (Rajkiran) idli store. At one point in the trailer, Sathyaraj's character tells his son, played by Arun Vijay, to learn from Murugan instead of leading a wastrel life as a prodigal son. The plot also includes a conflict between Arun Vijay's character and Dhanush's Murugan, which emerges after the latter's departure from his Michelin restaurant.
Geetha Kailasam plays Dhanush's mother in the film, which also stars Nithya Menon, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, Shalini Pandey, Brigida Saga, Ilavarasu, Samuthirakani, and Parthiban, among others. If the trailer is anything to go by, Dhanush has crafted a film high on emotions, with plenty of drama and some fight sequences. The trailer reminds you somewhat of many Dhanush films, including Velaiyilla Pattathari. One particular moment where a raging Dhanush holding a sickle seems straight out of Asuran.
On the technical front, Idli Kadai has music by GV Prakash, editing by GK Prasanna, cinematography by Kiran Koushik, stunts by Peter Hein, and costumes by Kavya Sriram. It marks Dhanush's fourth film as a director, after Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.
The film, which has long been in the making, is slated for an October 01 release in theatres. Dhanush's upcoming films also include Tere Ishk Mein, which reunites him with his Raanjhanaa director Aanand L Rai and co-stars Kriti Sanon, and a project with director Vignesh Raja. He is set to portray scientist and former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, in a biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India, as well.
