Shaalin Zoya makes directorial debut in Tamil; MS Bhaskar, Ashwin Kakumanu, Brigida Saga and others join cast

Shaalin Zoya, known for her roles in several Malayalam films and debuted in Tamil with Kannagi, is all set to make her directorial debut in Tamil.

Set in a rural backdrop in the late '90s, the upcoming film is a fantasy comedy that stars Brigida Saga and Nakkalites-fame Arun in lead roles. MS Bhaskar, Aruldoss, Ilavarasu, Devadarshini, Java Sundaresan, Jenson Diwakar and Aniruth will play key roles while Ashwin Kakumanu will be seen in a guest appearance.

Shaalin Zoya has previously directed The Family Act in Malayalam. She also earned fame through her appearance in the Tamil cooking reality TV show Cooku with Comali season 5.

Taking to her Instagram handle to express her happiness, Shaalin said "it wasn't easy" to take on directorial duties earlier. "It never was. But, if you happened to wear ‘director’s’ cap once, you just can’t easily let that go. This is the 10th year since I first stepped in to the filmmaking department as Director/Writer. So I’m using this opportunity to Announce My directorial debut in Tamil Cinema," she added.

Speaking about the film's story, she shared in a statement, "An incident takes place in a village during the late '90s and early 2000s. How it changes the lives of the people there will be narrated with a blend of comedy and fantasy."

On the technical crew, the film has cinematography is by K Ramcharan, editing by Suresh A Prasad, and art direction by D Santhosh. The new film is backed by KS Ramakrishna under the banner RK International. The film is expected to go on floors soon.
