At a recent event, Karuppu's director RJ Balaji shared a few details about his upcoming film with Suriya. The filmmaker revealed that he planned it as a Diwali release initially. "The film is almost done. I have watched it after editing. If we give it a lot of build-up now, nobody would like it," he said. The filmmaker also quipped, "My producers SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu watch films with greater attention than 'Blue Sattai' Maran. So they saw the film and expressed their satisfaction with it. I think the film has come out well."
However, when the event's anchors asked him further, RJ Balaji confirmed that he plays a cameo role in the film opposite Suriya. The actor-director appears in a scene, which is part of the Karuppu teaser, where Suriya tells his character, "Baby, daddy is home." The film brings Suriya and RJ Balaji back together, as actors, after 2018's Thaanaa Serndha Koottam.
Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures' SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu, Karuppu also stars Trisha, Indrans, Mansoor Ali Khan, Natty, Swaswika, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, and Sshivadha, among others. The other day, the film's makers released its first song, titled 'God Mode'.
The film's technical team includes composer Sai Abhyankkar, cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor Kalaivan, as well as stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor. It is expected to release soon in theatres worldwide.
