Ajith's landmark 25th film Amarkalam is all set for a re-release in theatres. The romantic action film was directed by Saran in his second collaboration with the actor after Kadhal Mannan. Released in 1999, it also starred Raghuvaran, Radhika and Nassar in leading roles.
A new poster, marking the re-release of the film after almost 26 years, was shared on social media with the tagline, 'An Epic Love Story'. For the unversed, the film marked a pivotal moment in Ajith's career and personal life as he and Shalini reportedly fell in love with each other on set, leading to their marriage in 2000. It was after this film that Ajith went on to act in several action films through the next decade.cin
Amarkalam revolves around a troubled and rebellious orphan who lives life on the edge as a local rowdy. His world changes when he’s hired to kidnap Mohana (Shalini), the daughter of a police commissioner, but ends up falling in love with her instead. As their relationship deepens, Vasu confronts his painful past and struggles for redemption. The film had music by Bharadwaj, cinematography by A Venkatesh and editing by Suresh Urs.
Amarkalam was bankrolled by Venkateswaralayam, which also produced Kadhal Mannan. This is the second time Amarkalam is being re-released. Earlier, a digitally restored version of the film was released in 2014.
