Suriya, last seen in Retro, is currently busy filming for his 45th and 46th films. His 45th is Karuppu, helmed by RJ Balaji, while his yet-to-be-titled 46th is directed by Venky Atluri. While both films are in production, RJ Balaji has dropped an update on Karuppu and what Suriya fans can expect for Deepavali.
Initially, the film itself was expected for Deepavali. RJ Balaji clarified why the film couldn't make it for the festival. At the Galatta Nakshathra and Wonder Women award function, he said, "Karuppu is almost complete. We initially planned to release it for Deepavali, but due to extensive CG work, we couldn’t make it in time. I personally love this film a lot, and my producer, SR Prabhu, watched it with great interest, and he really liked it too."
But all's not lost for fans who expected to see Suriya on the big screen this Deepavali. RJ Balaji revealed, "This Deepavali, we’ll be unveiling the first song from the film. Get ready to watch Suriya sir set the screen on fire with his dance! The film will release in theatres next year."
The film stars Trisha as the female lead, marking a reunion for the actor with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. The cast also includes Yogi Babu, popular Malayalam actor Indrans, Lubber Pandhu star Swasika, Sshivada, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi.
On the technical team, the film has music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by GK Vishnu, editing by Kalaivanan, art direction by Arun Venjaramoodu and stunt direction by Vikram Mor. The upcoming film also reunites Suriya with his NGK producers and RJ Balaji with his Sorgavaasal makers, SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures.
Meanwhile, Suriya 46 also stars Mamitha Baiju, Bhavani Sre, Raveena Tandon and Radikaa Sarathkumar in pivotal roles, with GV Prakash scoring music.
