TJ Gnanavel pens note on Vettaiyan, thanks Rajinikanth for his 'teachings'

Vettaiyan was TJ Gnanavel's third film, and reunited Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after Hum (1991)

Director TJ Gnanavel took to social media to reminisce about Vettaiyan a year after its release. He also The film starred Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, Ritika Singh, and Rana Daggubati, among others.

Starting off by talking about the film, he said, "The most cherished gift I have received from Jai Bhim is Vettaiyan. In my filmmaking journey, it as an important milestone for me to have had the privilege to direct Super Star, a legend who works tirelessly to achieve new heights and redefines the pinnacles himself."

Speaking about Rajinikanth, Gnanvel said, "There are many examples of those who have made it to the top, but you Sir, are the benchmark to teach us how to be, even after one has attained the summit. Thank you for all the love and support Sir."

Rajinikanth played the role of SP Athiyan in Vettaiyan.

Vettaiyan also reunites Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after Hum (1991). Amitabh played the role of Judge Sathyadev in the film.

Speaking about Amitabh and Rajinkanth in the film, Gnanavel said, "To have called ‘action’ and ‘cut’ to the two undisputed living legends of Indian cinema, at the same time, was nothing short of a dream for me, and transformed to a blessing indeed!"

Vettaiyan is also Fahadh Faasil's fifth film in Tamil. He later starred in Maareesan, which reunited him with Vadivelu after Maamannan. Fahadh essayed the role of a petty thief, 'Battery' Patrick in Vettaiyan.

Speaking about Fahadh, the director said, "Working with Fahadh Faasil is a fulfilling artistic experience. Athiyan and Battery’s on-screen bromance in Vettaiyan was loved so much by the audience, wishing for a spin-off film! Thank you FaFa!"

Vettaiyan is the fourth time that Anirudh has composed for the film, after Petta, Darbar, and Jailer. He will also compose music for Jailer 2.

"Thalaivar’s every film will always be special for Ani. Thank you Rockstar Anirudh for Vettaiyan," said the director.

The director also thanked the rest of the cast and crew for working on Vettaiyan.

TJ Gnanavel previously directed Jai Bhim, which starred Suriya and advocate Chandru, who fought for the justice for tribal people wrongfull convicted of crimes. He made his debut with the Ashok Selvan-starrer Kootathil Oruthan.
