After almost ten days in theatres, Dhanush and Nithya Menen's latest drama Idli Kadai has finally closed in on the Rs 45 crore mark after adding Rs 1 crore in revenue on its ninth day. The film, which marks Dhanush's fourth directorial after Pa Paandi, Raayan and Nilavukku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, has been collecting a little over Rs 1 crore every day since its second week, dropping massively from the momentum it showed on its first week and the following weekend where it earned almost Rs 18 crore.

Industry insiders have revealed that although the film had potential, the massive success of Kantara: Chapter 1 had rewritten box office history with hundreds thronging theatres to catch Rishab Shetty's period drama which is winning appreciation worldwide. It has already earned over Rs 400 crore worldwide, beating its own predecessor Kantara and even KGF: Chapter 1. However, hope for Idli Kadai prevails as weekend numbers are expected to revive its revenue thanks to continued positive word-of-mouth reviews from audiences.

Idli Kadai revolves around Dhanush as Murugan who is in pursuit of finding his roots and setting up his father's idli shop in their ancestral village after quitting his job at a michelin-star restaurant. The film also stars Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Parthiban and Samuthirakani.

While the film has been receiving positive reviews on the screenplay front, it has been receiving mixed reviews on its predictable storyline. Our CE review of the film read, "Dhanush headlines a warm and fuzzy film that makes us realise that familiarity and comfort are good, but only for a while."

The technical crew comprises Dhanush's frequent collaborator, composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, editor GK Prasanna, and art director Jackson. The film is produced by Akash Bhaskaran through his Dawn Pictures banner and Dhanush through his Wunderbar Pictures banner. The film marks Inban Udhayanidhi's (son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin) first film credit as a distributor.
