Tamil Nadu BJP Spokesperson ANS Prasad has requested the State government to grant tax exemption for Dhanush’s latest drama Idli Kadai, hailing it as a "refreshing and value-driven cinematic work" that highlights the culture of Tamil people, non-violence, and promotes social harmony.
In his statement, Prasad said that the film — also starring Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran and Sathyaraj in prominent roles — is starkly different from the recent trend of films that showcases hatred and greed along with glorifying the usage of violence and drugs. Instead, he said, Idli Kadai is a film "that sows noble thoughts, teaches compassion, and celebrates our traditional values.”
Stating these reasons, he urged the Tamil Nadu government to grant tax exemption for the film and ensure that school children from government schools and rural areas be shown the entertainer free of the cost. “It is a life-affirming film that imparts lessons on humanity and non-violence to children, students, and families,” he said.
"The movie beautifully captures the dignity of labour and the pride of continuing one’s ancestral profession without shame. It reminds us that honesty, love, and unity are greater measures of success than wealth or status," Prasad said, noting that the film's emotional core “cleanses the minds of youth and rekindle respect for parents, culture, and homeland.”
Prasad had also dismissed criticisms of the film romanticising ideas of traditionalism and caste-based occupations. Stating that it celebrates self-respect and integrity in any occupation, he said Idli Kadai serves as a reminder that "one’s education should serve the nation, not alienate one from roots or family."
Further, Prasad also congratulated Dhanush for making the film, noting that deserves to reach every household in Tamil Nadu.
Idli Kadai revolves around Dhanush as Murugan who is in pursuit of finding his roots and setting up his father's idli shop in their ancestral village after quitting his job at a michelin-star restaurant. It also stars Parthiban and Samuthirakani in key roles.
The technical crew comprises Dhanush's frequent collaborator, composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, editor GK Prasanna, and art director Jackson. The film is produced by Akash Bhaskaran through his Dawn Pictures banner and Dhanush through his Wunderbar Pictures banner. The film marks Inban Udhayanidhi's (son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin) first film credit as a distributor.
