It is well known that director Mari Selvaraj is reuniting with Dhanush for the actor's 56th project after the massive success of Karnan. The untitled film is being backed by Dr Ishari K Ganesh's Vels Film International. Now, speculations are rife that Sai Pallavi is all set to join the cast of the upcoming film as the female lead. However, official confirmation is awaited.

If the reports come true, then this yet-to-be-titled film will mark Dhanush and Sai Pallavi's second collaboration. They previously starred together in Balaji Mohan's Maari 2. More than the film, their song 'Rowdy Baby' has already made their pair a hit. So this reunion, if it materialises, will be truly received with eagerness and anticipation from fans.

Previously, at an event in July, Mari Selvaraj revealed that the upcoming project with Dhanush (D56) will be a milestone in his career. "We signed this film when I was working with Dhanush sir on Karnan. The film that we signed to do then was getting delayed for various reasons. It is a big project. In my life, I wanted to tell a simple story in a big way. This film is that project. I think this film will be a very important one. Work on this film has started and is going on," he said.

D56 will have music by AR Rahman. It will mark Rahman’s reunion with Mari Selvaraj after Maamannan(2023) and with Dhanush after Raayan(2024). Rahman has also composed for Dhanush’s films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021).

Meanwhile, the filmmaker, who last made Vaazhai, is currently awaiting the release of Bison, starring Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 17. Sai Pallavi was last seen in Thandel earlier this year and in Amaran in Tamil last year. She has Mere Raho and 2 parts of Nitish Tiwari's Ramayana in the pipeline.

Dhanush, on the other hand, is fresh off the release of his fourth directorial, Idli Kadai. The actor is awaiting the release of Tere Ishk Mein, directed by his Raanjhanaa filmmaker Aanand L Rai. He is set to portray former President APJ Abdul Kalam in Kalam: The Missile Man of India, directed by Om Raut, and Ilaiyaraaja in a biopic from his Captain Miller filmmaker Arun Matheswaran. Dhanush's upcoming projects also include one film with Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy and D54 with Vignesh Raja.
