According to reports, actor Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has moved the Supreme Court challenging the order from the Madras High Court that established a special team to investigate the recent Karur stampede. Reportedly, TVK's General Secretary, Aadhav Arjuna, filed a petition at the Supreme Court looking for an independent probe, headed by an erstwhile SC judge, into the tragic event. Earlier, the High Court signed an order that directed a special team, led by Asra Garg, an IPS officer, to look into the incident.

In the latest petition, Vijay's party argues that HC set up a Special Investigation Team composed of cops representing the state, in spite of questioning the state law enforcement probe and the part that authorities played in the incident. According to the petition, the party argues that the special team has a biased mindset against it.

According to the petition, the observations of the court, noting that TVK has not expressed remorse on the incident and Vijay went away from the accident scene immediately, have already impacted the investigation. The party also claims that one could not discard the possibility of a scheme from miscreants to cause trouble.

On Friday, October 10, the appellate court is set to hear a plea that will challenge an order from the High Court refusing to move the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
