A group of Tamil cinema fans flew all the way from Japan to meet filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.

The pictures of the meeting were posted in the director's production house X handle, Stone Bench. The post read that the fans relived the memories and celebrated Karthik's Jigarthanda Double X, starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah, which released in 2023. It added that they watched his other films too before heading back to Japan.

Karthik Subbaraj last made Retro, starring Suriya, Pooja Hegde, Nassar, Jayaram, Joju George, Prakash Raj, Swasika, and Karunakaran, among others. The film has Suriya play Paarivel Kannan, the adopted son of Thilagan (Joju) and Sandhya (Swasika), who is unique for having a spear-like scar. That scar happens to be the entry point to Paari's origins, his real parents and home, who are enslaved by a powerful family on an island.

The film, upon release, opened to mixed to positive reviews and became a box-office success.

On the production front, his Stone Bench Creations backed Perusu, which is a remake of the Sinhalese film Tentigo. The dark comedy starred Vaibhav, Sunil and Niharika NM.
