On Tuesday, Venkat Prabhu's hit directorial, Maanaadu, clocked four. Starring Silambarasan and SJ Suryah in lead roles, the film hit theatres on November 25, 2021, and opened to largely positive reviews.

Marking the occasion, the filmmaker took to X on Tuesday to pen a heartfelt note. He wrote, "When we made this crazy time-loop film #Maanaadu, I believed one thing for sure: that our audience will get it… And you all got it MORE than we imagined! Thank you for celebrating experiments in cinema. You make us push boundaries… Thanks for the belief, Silambarasan and SJ Suryah." (sic)

Maanaadu featured Silambarasan, an NRI, and SJ Suryah, a police officer, who are trapped in a time loop on the day of a public conference and forced to live the same day over and over again until they figure out how to get out of it.

Upon release in India in November 2021, the film received widespread critical and commercial acclaim, with many publications calling it the best film of 2021. The film was one of Simbu's biggest hits. Apart from Simbu and SJ Suryah, the ensemble cast of the film included Kalyani Priyadarshan, Manoj Bharathiraja, SA Chandrasekhar, YG Mahendran, Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Aravind Akash and Anjena Kirti.

The film featured KL Praveen's editing, Yuvan Shankar Raja's score and Richard M Nathan's camera work. In our review of the film, Sudhir Srinivasan wrote, "Every writer likes to believe they are writing a ‘smart cat-and-mouse game between the hero and the villain’, but it’s easier said than done.  Maanaadu accomplishes this, though, and it is evidently a result of much writing work."

Backed by Suresh Kamatchi of V House Productions, Maanaadu reportedly earned Rs 117 crores at the box office.
