Stephen Teaser: A murder unfolds in front of a camera in this film

Stephen is the debut directorial of Mithun, who has written the film along with Gomathi Shankar, who leads the cast of the film

Netflix unveiled the trailer for its upcoming crime thriller Stephen. The film stars Gomathi Shankar, who was previously seen in Lover and in Gargi, in the lead is set to premiere on December 5.

The trailer is set in a single room and features a montage of various female actors, struggling to complete a scene, which features them reacting to a man attacking with a knife. As the man behind the camera guides them through the motion, he suddenly lunges on the women and kills them, offscreen.

Apart from Gomathi Shankar, the cast of Stephen includes Michael Thangadurai and Smruthi Venkat.

Jayakumar and Mohan produce the film under the JM Production House banner.

The project was unveiled in September by Netflix. Speaking about the film, director Mithun says, "Stephen is about a calm, calculated serial killer who carries secrets which are unsettlingly personal. Gomathi Shankar plays the title role with a quiet intensity, making the character feel both reel and real. As a debutant, this film means a lot to me. We tried to approach the subject with utmost care and honesty."
